Connecting Students Locally and Beyond: Legacy Mural Project

What do we think of when we reflect on water in a desert – our Sonoran Desert? That’s a question teachers wanted their 6th grade students to explore as part of an interdisciplinary unit.

During writing, students learned about water, conservation and local/global impacts. Partner artist, Anna, came in and helped students voice their ideas about water in the form of visual images and designs.

Anna captured these ideas and student voice in four beautiful panels. Students spent several weeks painting the four canvases. Lastly, the canvas was framed for hanging in the school hallway as a 6th grade legacy gift.
